Welcome to my website! My name is Marietje Schaake, and I am a Member of the European Parliament for D66 political party, or the social-liberals from The Netherlands. On the European level we cooperate with like minded parties in the 84 person strong ALDE Group. 

I sit on the committee for Foreign Affairs as well as for Culture, Media, Education, Youth and Sports. I work on transatlantic relations as a member of the US Delegation, and on neighborhood policies on the delegation with the Balkans. 

Together we stand for a democratic and effective Europe, that speaks with one voice in the world. Challenges in our economies, our climate and our security can not be faced by one country alone. Together we have to tackle those issues that we all face, and that do not stop effecting us at a nation's border. Furthermore, we believe Europe is a union of values. Equality in law and opportunity should apply to all people, irrespective of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity or background.

Europe has brought us peace and stability, wealth and opportunity. In Europe, former enemies are allies, together we broke down the wall that used to divide Eastern and Western Europe.

The next generation will have to pay the price of our current financial, economic and climate crises. Government has a role to play in providing sustainable solutions and regard for future generations. Education is at the core of free societies, investing in education as well as in research and innovation are essential to foster a knowledge economy. Crisis can never be an excuse to forego respect for human rights or for the environment. 

The title of our election program is 'Europe is About People'. I feel particularly connected to younger generations, and believe Europe will have a significant impact on our lives. I warmly invite you to share your input, ideas, hopes and questions about Europe. Together we need to work on a democratic, transparent and efficient Europe.

D66 says YES to Europe. Because a strong Europe is the best guarantee for sustainability, prosperity and opportunities for NL & all Europeans

Think & trade internationally. Invest in a sustainable future, create opportunities and let people participate. Economic cooperation is crucial

Ensure a common European foreign policy. No 27 petty, different opinions: Europe should speak with one voice in NATO and the UN

Provide Europeans with the best education. Allow schools and universities to improve their cooperation and recognize each other's programs

Protect common European values in the law. Equal treatment, human rights, anti-discrimination and in favor of freedom of expression

Introduce a BlueCard that validates pensions and earned labor rights throughout the EU. Work wherever you want in an open European market

The exhaustion and pollution of the earth should stop. Thats why the EU should fiercely promote green energy and conclude a new Energy treaty

Dont tackle the economic crisis with nationalism/protectionism,but with cooperation. There should be one European monitoring system for banks

Criminals and terrorists do not stop at the borders. Provide our security and justice forces the possibility to work beyond borders as well
